It’s a sad commentary on American life when neighborhoods cannot weigh in on subsidized, taxpayer-funded middle housing without accusations of NIMBYism. I wish the issues were that simple. Our current top-down state government approach takes away neighborhood voice. Expedited land use applications for subsidized middle housing development now limit public comment to 14 days with no opportunity to appeal. The Floral Hill Terrace application by DevNW has significant deficiencies that do not warrant an expedited application. What are the differences between those two things?” said Martina Shabram, the executive director of Eugene’s Sexual Assault Support Services. “A significant amount of the education we end up doing is about, ‘Does what happened to me count? What happened to me, it wasn’t rape, so I don’t want to take up your time.’”
