5mEmergency alert ‘inadvertently sent out countywide’
The alert, sent out shortly after 1:30 a.m., awakened many across Lane County. Police said it was only intended to be issued to people in the west Eugene neighborhood where a man, believed to possibly be armed with high-powered rifles, initially refused to exit a home to comply with SWAT officers.

An emergency alert early Friday, Aug. 28, that reached as far as Florence warning of police activity in a west Eugene neighborhood was sent in relation to SWAT police activity, a Eugene police spokesperson said.
