Mississippi’s capital city is a finalist for a U.S. Department of Justice grant that could pump tens of millions of dollars into its police department, a surge of funding that Jackson officials have said would be used to rebuild the city’s forensic laboratory, hire more officers and expand surveillance of violent crime, including using artificial intelligence to track potential criminals.
