Newport man dead after suspected murder-suicide attempt

NEWPORT — The 27-year-old man found dead Tuesday in a Putnam Road residence shot his 23-year-old romantic partner multiple times, police believe, before taking his own life. The severely injured woman was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center to receive care. Newport Police reported she was in critical but stable condition at the hospital Tuesday night, according to a 9 p.m. news release.
